What Can You Put in a Dumpster Load by Load in Escambia

Most of what a Pensacola remodel, roof job or storm cleanout produces can go in a roll-off: drywall, carpet, furniture, lumber, shingles, fencing and limbs. The exceptions are household hazardous waste, asbestos, and anything liquid, and around Escambia County it pays to keep clean concrete and yard trash in their own loads because the landfill prices them differently.

Sort it by where it ends up

Escambia County's Perdido Landfill in Cantonment sets the public gate rates that waste from Pensacola is priced against, and its fee schedule sorts debris into a few categories. Thinking about a load the same way the landfill does answers most "can this go in?" questions before they come up.

Mixed debris: the everyday load

Solid waste at Perdido is charged $45.06 a ton. That category covers the ordinary contents of a renovation or a house clear-out:

  • drywall, insulation, carpet, pad and flooring;
  • cabinets, doors, trim, fixtures and old furniture;
  • lumber, fencing and shed parts;
  • shingles and roofing underlayment;
  • the soaked contents of a room after a flood.

This is the material a construction and renovation dumpster rental is built around, and it is what most people picture when they order a box.

Clean concrete: keep it pure

The county accepts clean fill, clean dirt and clean concrete with no fee, as long as the concrete carries no rebar and no welded wire. That makes broken patio slabs, old sidewalk and block worth handling separately. One Pensacola hauler rents a concrete-only box under the condition of clean concrete only, with no mixed debris permitted. A single bag of household trash thrown on top turns a free load into a weighed one, so a concrete job should get its own container and nothing else should go in it.

Yard trash and storm limbs

Yard trash is cheaper than solid waste at Perdido, at $27.62 a ton. After Hurricane Isaias came ashore near Destin on 9 October 2026, the City of Pensacola asked residents to keep tree limbs and leaves separate from construction and demolition debris such as building materials, fencing, carpet, furniture and plumbing, because the two are collected on different passes. The same logic applies to a roll-off. A box of nothing but limbs is cheaper to tip than a box of limbs with a gutted bathroom underneath. The storm debris dumpster rental page covers how to split a storm cleanout.

What stays out of the box entirely

Some materials should not go in a roll-off at all.

Household hazardous waste. Paint, paint removers, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, household cleaners, used oil, antifreeze, gasoline and fluorescent bulbs all go to the household hazardous waste drop-off at Perdido Landfill. It is open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and free year-round for Escambia County residents, though it takes nothing from businesses.

Batteries and gas cylinders. Car, marine and motorcycle batteries, propane tanks and scuba tanks are accepted at the same drop-off.

Electronics. Televisions, computers, monitors, printers and phones are taken there at no charge, year-round.

Asbestos. Old floor tile, pipe wrap or siding that may contain asbestos is special waste at the county landfill. It is charged $235.47 a ton and must be reviewed, approved and scheduled in advance, so it can never simply be tossed into a mixed box.

Liquids. Wet paint, fuel, oil and anything that can leak belong in their own sealed containers at the hazardous waste site, not in a steel box that may sit in the rain.

Covering the load

The county also charges $35.12 on uncovered commercial loads. A roll-off on the road to the landfill needs to be loaded below the rim so it can be covered, with nothing loose on top that can blow off on the way.

Inside city limits, check the hauler too

What goes in the box is only half the rule inside Pensacola. City code requires any company collecting other people's solid waste to hold a city franchise, and a construction site using a non-franchised provider can face an immediate stop work order. Ask the hauler for its franchise status when you book.

For a house full of contents rather than construction debris, see home cleanout dumpster rental. Box sizes, included weight and the per-ton rate past that allowance are on the pricing page.
